If the item is not getting any interest, we may ask you about painting it, reducing it, or to take the item back.
A: French Country, French Provincial, Mid-Century Modern, Empire, Primitive pieces, and English are the best selling styles of consigned furnishings and decor.
A: Light to medium toned woods sell best. Dark woods occasionally sell but, woods that are reclaimed, burled, or heavily grained are good sellers.
A: We do buy and consign unpainted pieces. If the piece is unpainted it should be in excellent condition and fit the look and feel of our shop. If you are considering painting a piece for consignment, white, cream, or gray are always our best selling colors. We can also sell soft shades of blues, greens, and some light yellows tones they just may take longer to sell. If you want to consign a painted piece but, are unsure of your painting skills or do not have the time, we can recommend some talented painters for you depending on your end result goal.
A: Younger people trend toward refurbished, industrial, and vintage chic. This means they are mixing antiques with other modern styles. So while they may buy an antique piece here or there, they are not buying a lot of them.
A: Just like the younger generations, the older generations are also mixing styles old and new and/or modern and classic elements. In our area, Coastal Casual and Coastal Elegance are most popular. Other strong selling looks are vintage or primitive especially French styles, urban industrial, and mid-century modern. Gray is a color that is trending with staying power in our market and a popular base color. Blues, greens, coral-orange, and citrine green are the most popular color accents. Mixed metals and a bit metallic is also popular among more contemporary clients or clients trying to incorporate existing heirloom pieces into a fresh more modern look.
A: Painted finishes can provide a lighter look and feel than wood tones, especially darker ones. In our coastal market, most people enjoy the outdoors, sunshine, and water. Most of these clients are looking for a “light, fresh, airy feeling”.
A: If you absolutely do not want to paint your piece, there are other local consignors we might can recommend. Please keep in mind that there is still a very good chance the new owner will paint the piece even if you don’t want to sell it that way.
A: Matching twin beds are the best seller, but the queen size also sells very well. King sizes take longer to sell and full/double beds don’t usually sell as well.
